COURSE OUTLINE

This is the second semester of a two-semester course. Both semesters will cover the DeGroot and Schervish text. This second semester will cover at a minimum Chapters 6, 7, 8, 9.1, 9.2, 9.6, and parts of 11, time permitting

HOMEWORK POLICY

Homework will be assigned as the corresponding materials are covered in lecture. All homework assigned in a given week is due at the end of lecture on the following Wednesday. For example, all homework assigned during the week of January 5 – 9  was be due on January 14.

Someone homework problems will be assigned only for graduate students to do. Undergraduates who wish the challenge are encouraged to try these and will not be penalized in their homework scores for doing so.

In addition, "special" more involved homework assignments may be given during the semester and these assignments will have their own due dates, separate from weekly homework due dates. These "special" assignments will be clearly so designated in class.

***NOTE*** Students are allowed and, in fact, encouraged to discuss homework with each other. However, all assignments are to be written separately. IN ADDITION, there will be a few homework assignments that will require the students to work separately. These will be clearly indicated.

RESCHEDULED CLASSES

Due to scheduling issues, there may be a need to reschedule one or two classes. If this need occurs the dates and times for such rescheduled classes will be discussed with the class.

MIDTERMS

There will be two midterms and the dates for these will be announced a couple of weeks in advance. The policy of how many sheets of notes will be allowed for the tests will be announced shortly. Otherwise the tests are closed books.

 FINAL

There will be a final exam. The final exam will be a comprehensive one and cover the entire semester.

GRADING

Relative weights are 23% for homework, 24% for each midterm, and 29% for the final.

These weights may change slightly at the instructor's prerogative during the semester.
