The Department of Statistics is excited to welcome several new faculty members in the fall of 2020. Each week as we approach the start of the semester, we'll introduce one of them with a little bit of background about their interests. This week we would like to welcome:

Kiran Nihlani

Kiran comes to University of Pittsburgh from NC State University where she is pursuing her PhD in Statistics. Her dissertation focuses on non-parametric techniques for estimating and backtesting financial risk measures. Her recent work as an analyst with the Department of Biological Sciences has been on analyzing associations between prenatal environmental exposures and birth outcomes. Kiran was awarded the Department of Statistics William Mendenhall Graduate Fellowship for Excellence in Teaching, and the Preparing the Professoriate Fellowship. She is excited to continue her research and teaching at University of Pittsburgh and looks forward to the start of the semester.
